TES Awards: Rewarding Excellence in and Teamwork in Education

The strong partnership between MISPA and Wright Robinson College was recognised on 9th June 2009 at the inaugural Times Educational Supplement (TES) awards at the Hilton, Park Lane, London.

Hosted by Rory Bremner the awards showcased the best in education and MISPA won the Outstanding Sporting Initiative award for the long-term studies into the benefits and impact of physical education upon school children.

The event was extremely well attended and the judges recognised the strength of partnership working between the school and MISPA and the difference that our combined efforts made to the pupils. The judges' commented that the university acts as an "excellent prefect" and that, "the research has provided long-term, serious evidence." They also praised the involvement of disaffected pupils.

This is a significant achievement in the face of tough national competition and MISPA would like to thank all who have championed and supported the project over more than 10 years. The project was set up by MISPA in partnership with Wright Robinson College and Youth Sports Trust. Special mention must go to Prof. Les Burwitz, MMU who championed the development of the studies. Dr. Gillian Burgess and Dr. Andrea Livesey have overseen the delivery of the project whilst also completing their doctorates.

Together all partners have helped the project achieve a track record of 10 years, 10,000 children, and 1 million hours of PE assessed. The TES is the latest award in what was, and still is, a ground breaking collaboration between one of the best sports colleges in the country and the university for professionals.
